Here's a polished rewrite. I tightened the prose, smoothed the flow, and fixed a few small typos — but first, one thing worth flagging:
The schedule dates don't line up with the days of the week. In 2026, June 11 is a Thursday (✓), but June 12 is Friday and June 13 is Saturday — so "Friday, June 13th" and "Saturday, June 14th" appear to be off by a day. Since the festival falls on the second weekend of June, the Saturday is almost certainly June 13th. I've used the corrected dates below, but please double-check against your own planning before publishing.
For 25 years, the Hot Corner Association has celebrated and uplifted the heart of Athens' African-American business community through the Hot Corner Festival. Held each year on the second weekend in June, this vibrant block party brings together local businesses, great food, and live entertainment while honoring the rich history and cultural legacy of the Hot Corner for all of Athens.
The festival comes alive on Saturday at the intersection of Hull and Washington streets, home to the main stage, and stretches down Washington Street from Pulaski to Lumpkin. Throughout the day, guests can take in live performances, browse local vendors, and dig into delicious BBQ and soul food from some of Athens' best restaurants. Younger visitors have a place of their own at the "Kids Corner," packed with games, activities, and a moon bounce.
Hot Corner Festival 2026 Schedule
Thursday, June 11 · 6:30 PM — Participant Mixer at Ciné, 234 Hancock Avenue. Sponsors, vendors, volunteers, artists, and the community are all invited.
Friday, June 12 · 6:00 PM — Gospel Kickoff at First AME Church.
Saturday, June 13 · 10 AM–10 PM — The Festival, at the corner of Washington and Hull streets.
Beyond the festival, the Hot Corner Association is dedicated to strengthening the economic vitality of downtown Athens. Through educational workshops, special events, and community initiatives, the Association works year-round to encourage, promote, and support business diversity.
History. Community. Diversity.
The History of the Hot Corner
Want to dig deeper into the story behind the Hot Corner? Explore the Hot Corner audio documentary podcast, created by Alexander Stephens and Broderick Flanigan. This six-part series takes a deep dive into one of the most prosperous Black business districts in Georgia.
Drawing on in-depth research and firsthand interviews with Black business owners and longtime patrons, the Hot Corner Podcast traces the district's rise during segregation, its decline following integration, and the ongoing work of the Athens Black community and organizations like the Hot Corner Association to keep its legacy alive.

There's no better way to spend a summer evening in Athens than under an open sky at the Sunflower Concert Series, one of the season's most beloved traditions at the State Botanical Garden of Georgia. The setting alone is worth the trip: the Flower Garden, the prettiest natural amphitheater in town, where blooms spill across the hillside and the music drifts out over the crowd as the light turns golden.
Pack a blanket, fold up a few chairs, and bring along a picnic dinner to linger over as the band plays. Even better? Your admission includes snacks and beverages, so you can settle in and stay a while.
Should the weather refuse to cooperate, don't worry — concerts simply move indoors to the Visitor Center and Conservatory, so the music plays on, rain or shine.
